Value chain

In a globalized world, supply and value chains are becoming longer and more confusing. At one end of the value chain, producers are dependent on world market prices, supply agreements and are exposed to considerable social and economic risks. At the other end, consumers know little to nothing about the effects and details of the value chain. Transparency is essential to make value chains sustainable and future-proof. A close look at the individual steps, the responsibility and decision-making structures of all actors is also important in order to gain a deeper understanding of the ecological, economic and social costs. We are committed to equality and justice throughout the entire value chain so that the processes are transparent and understandable for everyone involved. Decision-making structures are based on the principle of community. This means that we make decisions through discourse. Expertise and trust in the people responsible are crucial here. The value chain at TEIKEI Olive consists of three steps: olive cultivation and processing, transport and distribution of the olive oil.

1) The olive oil is grown in Greece by small farmers. Three farms are directly connected to TEIKEI Olive and are looked after. When growing the olives, we pay attention to sustainable cultivation methods that are based on the principles of regenerative cultivation.

2) The transport should be as emission-free and pleasant as possible for everyone involved: fair conditions for the logistics companies, hardly any emissions of carbon dioxide, sulphur, soot and no (machine) noise, which massively restricts the living space of the earth's inhabitants. In urban regions, the olive oil is sometimes brought to the depots of the consumer communities by bicycle. Here we pay attention to the sensible use of the means of transport and to avoid unnecessary journeys.

3) Sustainable distribution structures are needed to avoid (unnecessarily) long value chains and thus the extreme increase in value caused by many middlemen. This is one of the reasons why we distribute the olive oil through consumer communities so that the olive oil is always freshly bottled and distributed to consumers. In Germany and Switzerland, distribution currently takes place mainly via parcel service. In the future, we would also like to transport olive oil by train and bicycle.
